I mentioned a while back, I was going to have a bear tank. Even though I do plan on eventually going resto with my druid, I intend to give tanking a full and fair try. I might as well until I have the healing gear. the other night, I came very close to going back to boomkin, after a very frustrating hour of questing in cat form. I’m not a huge fan of cat in outlands. It was a blast in Azeroth, but since hitting Hellfire, I am getting misses, parries, dodges left and right. Which means I’m not killing mobs faster than my health bar drops anymore.  After being talked out of bagging the whole feral tree prematurely we set up my first Ramps run.

I had our uber pally tank on his lock, voicing me through the pulls, offering helpful suggestions. It was a tanking lesson run. The group was Jessmyna (lvl 60 feral druid), 62 lock, 59 shadow priest, 58 boomkin, 70 holy pally. That’s right, virtually no CC. On a 2 mob pull I felt pretty comfortable, even when being tossed around like a big furry beach ball! I wish I’d have had time to get a screenshot of them throwing me, and making me land on top of one of the tents. Can’t tank from up there! I got to try a little bit of everything. Getting mind control aggro off the shadow priest…being one myself I know how mad those mobs are after you poke at their minds. one growl usually did it. I even got to try a bad pull when the entire terrace before the dragon boss aggro’ed out of the blue. One of us got a bit to close to another group, and a fear brought two more. No wipe though, noone even died.

My only complaints will be remedied when I level. At 60 I don’t have alot of ways to grab threat in a hurry. Growl and mangle both have a cd, maul doesn’t seem to cut it. I am hoping Lacerate becomes my get that mob back ability. I also have ragtag gear at the moment, but that will also improve with level.

I’m not sure if I like tanking yet, I didn’t hate it, but I did have moments I wanted to run screaming out of there. Healing is definitely easier, dps even easier, but I’m not one to shrink from a challenge until I’m sure I hate it or love it.

Jessface Look at this face. I just realized, she totally looks like a bad ass, so it’s fitting that after my last post concerning respeccing my druid to resto and my priest to shadow, that I did make her shadow. I am loving it. I can farm my motes, do my dailies, do arena with hubby, even do a bg if I feel like it. So far we’ve actually won a few matches in arena with the shadow priest rogue combo. I find it especially amusing when the player that kills me dies from my improved SW:Pain soon after my death…hehe.

Unfortunately, the side effect is that my druid is on hiatus. She’s at lvl 60, and has all feral gear, even lvl 70 tanking gear in the bank. So she’ll stay feral until I manage to get her d3 set, and some leather caster gear made. Also, I’ll have to change from elemental leatherworking to tribal for the windhawk gear. Alot of gold is going into regearing my priest right now. I did get her into 3/3 Frozen Shadoweave, grab the epic off hand with my badges, and I’m working on lower city rep for the dps caster mace there. She’s definitely ready to start kara, and will be running in our Attumen-Maiden/Opera/sometimes curator group until she gets a few more upgrades. My biggest decision at the time, is Spellstrike or Battlecast?? Opinions welcome on that.

Playing her shadow is definitely a new experience in groups. I really only used it to level, and rarely ran any instances that spec. My spell rotation is constantly undergoing change right now. I think I have one that works right now, I’ll need to try it in a group to be sure.

druidface This is my druid’s face. Now SHE looks like a healer. However before I go pure resto with her, I might try a 43/0/18 spec. We have a druid in that spec, that main heals heroics!! I loved my time as boomkin, and think it might be worth a shot. i couldn’t see her gear however, since she logs out in her formal wearTongue

The best thing is, I love my druid in all her specs. But finally, after many months of not really liking her, I LOVE my priest. I’ve been asked why heal on my druid, if I dislike healing. I don’t dislike healing. I actually enjoy healing. But I don’t find it fun on a priest. I do find it fun on my druid. So common sense says, heal on the fun healer, melt faces on the priest.

Thank you ALL for your helpful comments when I asked for opinions. You really helped make this decision easier.

1 year and 4 months after her creation….Jessmyna, my first toon, a now feral druid, is in outlands. Now all she has to do is grow into her tanking gear. Thanks go to Big Bear Butt Blogger and his awesome list of druid starter tank gear she has alot of it in the bank. It’s rather intimidating going from the role of healing to being the healed. I’m kind of nervous about my first run as a tank. But I have a few levels to go before that becomes a problem. And I’ll hopefully get guild runs to make the process easier. I can’t imagine learning to tank in a pug.
