Yeah, I know this video has been posted by everyone and their gnomish uncle today, but it goes with my point. Wrath of the Lich King has brought with it a chance for a new start for all of us. A chance to change our goals, our main characters, or way of playing, our game. Which for me is a good thing. I’ve decided just before launch that my game needed to change a bit. I was too stressed by something that was supposed to be fun, and relaxing. So, I’ve decided to make the changes to get me back to that part. Raiding Pretty much off the radar this time around. I got a chance to do it in BC, and maybe someday I’ll see the inside of the new raids. I’d honestly like to, but I can’t foresee a way to do that at this time. Raid times are right at my family dinner time. Dinner is hard enough here to schedule with a husband that has no specified time to get home. The Army isn’t 9-5, it’s more like 6am to whenever they let him go home. He averages getting home around 5 most times, give or take 30 minutes. But there are days that extends to 6, or later. Raids start at 6pm. Even if we eat at exactly 5pm, we’d be rushing the meal, to get online and get ready. It’s the only meal we get to have together. We already have limited time together, and a deployment (12 month long) looming in the not so distant future. I can’t take away the one time the 4 of us can sit and eat together. Also, raiding requires signing up in advance. The furthest in advance I could manage is 15-30 minutes. Progression raiding is great for some, but it’s just not for me. It’s not my game. Dungeons These are in my game. But I do have limits. If hubby is home, and playing, I’m no longer joining a group without him. Of course if he isn’t home, isn’t playing, or is sleeping I will. But I still feel bad about running so many without him through outlands, since I’m the one that said hey if you play too we can play together! Questing, Holidays and Fun Stuff This is where my heart lies. In all the little things, the quest stories, the achievements, the holiday events that I’ve never done in two years of playing. Sure I got a peddlefeet, but I didn’t really take part in most of the others. And let’s not forget the fun things to get through fishing, crafting, and rep. An epic fishing pole, a baby penguin pet, a motorcycle. These are what I want my focus on. The playful, the fun, the whimsical. Things that are definitely attainable, not dependant on how many raids I’ve done, mostly not dependant on random rolls or DKP. THAT is my ****’ing game! Anyone else making changes this time around?
Since the release of Wrath of the Lich King, the game is more active than it has been for months. There are announcements of server firsts, achievements to be had, leveling to do, new crafts to learn new areas to explore. And more things for people to snark about. The one that’s really ticking me off is the “that guy has no life” comment every time someone gets to 80 in this first week, or is already 80 and has T7 gear pieces, or pvp gear, or whatever. “OMG talk about no life!!” or any of the myriad of things already said by non gamers about anyone that plays WoW, but now being said by people that are playing the same game, spending just as much time at it. It’s really getting on my last nerve. First of all, what’s with the “No life” comment? Maybe these people DO have a busy life, and took some time OFF to get as much done as they can with the xpac release, before returning to that job/school, and returning to limited playtime. In fact I know a few military guys that have done exactly that. Time off ranging from a 4 day pass (gives a 4 day weekend) to taking some leave time(vacation). My hubby did not, but he’s also fine with just getting there when he gets there. Maybe they do only have WoW to keep them sane, due to disability, there could be a variety of possibilities that we’ll never know. Second, I know for a fact I spend just as much time online as these players that have hit the level cap. Being a stay at home mom that’s my luxury. No, I’m not even close to 80, and probably won’t be for a while. And I’m not in any rush. Because end game isn’t my main goal. However, for some End Game is the best part of the game and they want to reach it as fast as possible. Kudos to them!! I have never found leveling easy, so I’m impressed when people get to top level as fast as some of them have, and frankly, I also don’t care how they did it. It’s their $15/month, they have the right to their playstyle. What’s the big deal? I have 56 non combat pets, 375 skills (not counting fishing) spread across 3 70’s and a 68. I have 56 non combat pets on my main, and I spent most of the week camping book spawns for an achievement, and fishing so I can get more. This could be evidence of “no life” too I guess. Bottom line is, we ALL spend about the same time online doing what makes US happy, be it powering through to 80 and Naxx ASAP, collecting achievements, questing, grinding, instancing, exploring. We are all human beings behind these keyboards that really know nothing about each other. Why be so negative against those who have achieved their goals? Is it hurting you personally? Anymore than us playing our way is hurting them? No. Gamers fight the “No life/living in mom’s basement/geek” stereotype every day, we shouldn’t have to fight it amongst ourselves. I’ll let the pictures do the talking, link to guide for this achievement at the end. Forgive me, it’s almost 3:30am and I’m tired:P First, The achievement, then the mail… Then the fun part, use the book he gave me, and end up face to face with… Talk to him, and he gave me… I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy. Come on, Squishy Come on, little Squishy. If you yourself are trying to accomplish this achievement, I found a guide on this forum thread that was a huge help. Special thanks to Tyr, Drizzt, Jager, and Daaru for the company various times throughout the day while I camped this. Now, to get that fishing skill up. What? Leveling is what I should be doing? Meh, it can wait *winks* Oh and bonus, I can go hide in the top of Dalaran in a fully furnished room in a spire whenever I want! It’s private, til someone else on my server gets this done. Good Luck!! |
