About 20 minutes ago, I was sitting here watching TV, the kids were playing, dinner was done and I was just waiting for the beginning of the bed time routine. Then I heard a knock at my door…and on the other side was a lady carrying a box, inside which were these…

The card said…

“Thank you for the last 14 years. Here’s to the next 14.
your Loving Husband,
Ken”

I love this man, I love him I love him I love him. This is the first time in 14 years we have been apart on this day, and right now…I just feel him all around me.

Soldier dies in Iraq

Associated Press

TONGANOXIE, Kan. – The wife of a Kansas soldier killed in Iraq on his 22nd birthday was glad she was able to wave goodbye and blow kisses to her husband just last week on a Web camera.

Army Spc. Lucas A. Frantz was killed Tuesday during a mission in Mosul, Iraq, the Pentagon announced Wednesday.

“It was fate we were meant to see each other one last time,” his wife, Kelly Frantz, told Kansas City television station WDAF. “I’m happy I got to tell him I love him and he said he loved me.”

We lost a soldier yesterday. Just hours before Ken and I got cut off at the computers. People wonder why getting cutoff is such a big deal to me, when I get to talk to him almost daily. Well this is why. Where he is, and what he’s doing, there may not always be a next time to get those three little words in if we get cut off before saying them. I haven’t heard from him today, and I’m really trying not to stress. But I know I will until I see him light up my screen with an IM. Getting those three little words in before we sign off means everything to me, do I know he loves me? YES. Does he know I Love him? Yes. Does it still make that big a deal? Absolutely.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Spc. Frantz, and with all of our soldiers.

God, please…keep my baby safe…

I swore last winter I was never driving in the snow again. Well, that was fine…I had my driver here at my disposal. But now, I don’t. Today, I had to run a couple errands. The first was going to the bank. Easy enough right? There isn’t really enough snow on the roads to justify using the gas guzzling four wheel drive. And they really aren’t that bad. Unless you are driving from the px to the bank, and like me, always forget there is a stop sign in what is really a stupid place. I mean noone ever comes out of that side street. Well, I had my first skid of the year. that sign needs a warning sign…something…anything, I’ll settle for “HEY Dumbass…yes you in the two tone gray GMC…Stop sign 10 ft!!”. So, I hit the brakes a touch to hard and did the boot scootin boogy right there. I did recover the skid…go me.

After school, I decided to get Burger King for the kids. Again, in 2WD because I refuse to guzzle gas in 4WD until absolutely neccessary. I make a left turn…gently I might add, and here we go again. This time my 10 year old has a comment. Yep, that’s right drivers critique from the peanut gallery. She was shocked that we didn’t go into a ditch…maybe she should drive. Again, I recovered, and did it well.

I didn’t panic, and this time I didn’t come back in the house, throw my keys and in my best drama queen form cry “I’m NEVER driving in this forsaken iceburg in winter again!!”. Yes, that’s what I did last year on the first and last day I drove in the winter. Hubby kindly pointed out that day that I did drive on the first major snowfall, did recover each of the 3 skids I found myself in, and suggested maybe next time I try 4WD on an inch of snow. Oops. I finally tried again last year…and discovered I have a talent for getting 4WD trucks to do something noone else could. Get stuck up to the rear fender in a snow bank.

Bring It On…

Today was better than expected. It was Ken’s birthday, and the first time in 14 years we’ve been apart for it. Even when he was in basic, he graduated the day before it. My morning started with a 10am wakeup on the computer. We talked for about 45 minutes, found out as soon as one wire is in hand, they’ll have their internet. He headed off to work, and said he’d call in a few hours. So I jumped into the truck, ran the few errands I had, hit my first skid of the winter, because I always miss this one stop sign until it’s almost too late. Trying to stop too fast on ice is never good. Got to the bank, the post office and home. About an hour later he did call. After talking for a while he was going to bed. But it seems walking past the internet cafe was just too tempting, so he stopped in for a few more minutes of “us” time. It’s so rare to have days like this, it was wonderful. And it was his birthday. *smiles*

Right now I have the first of 2 DVD’s burning, getting ready to transfer stuff from the desktop pc to this laptop. I can run photoshop on here so much faster than before it’s amazing!! well time to head upstairs, read some of my newest Danielle Steel book (Echoes, a ww2 era novel). Have a good night all!!

Weekly check in here, before people think I have forgotten how to use the internet. Two computers in the house, all to myself you’d think I’d be a little more prolific in my internet ventures. Hubby is doing well, and finally so am I. I keep my days busy which helps and I’m trying to stick to some sort of routine. Currently I got to the office three days a week, the gym on the other two, Church starts this Sunday, at least it’s supposed to. And I tanned for the first time yesterday, and burned my untanned parts that were covered this summer. Thank goodness that only happens once.

Today, I sent out 3 packages of goodies to him, I’m definitely getting my $7.70 worth in those flat rate boxes. I love our post office, it’s right up the street, the clerks are friendly, and helpful and even with a line I’ve never waited more than 15 minutes. Best part is I don’t have to leave the base.

I need to make a plug here today. Living in Alaska, I have learned the value of lip balms. Trust me, you need them. And with Ken in the desert, him and his troops really need it too. Well, my husband is the worlds biggest caffeine freak, but as you can imagine coffee is hard to keep with you romaing the streets in the middle east. So, when I contacted a local creator of a very special lip balm about buying some for him and his soldiers, I got quite a shock. As we speak, in one of my boxes today, several tubes of this wonderful lip balm are on their way to them!! If you like unchapped lips and caffeine, and want to support a local, home run business run by a heck of a great guy…then visit SpazzStick.Com and get some for yourself. Thank you Richie!!
