Pet Guide
The Pet Collector’s Guide Part 3 (Feats, Farming and Rep)
Jan 14th
This part of the guide should cover the rest of the pets attainable in the game as it stands at the moment. These ones are by no means easy, and quite often they depend on nothing but luck and farming. Maybe some camping if you’re so inclined. We’ll start easy and work our way up to the harder. The GOOD news is, Guild Mum reports the achievement to get Lil Fawn’s Saltlick will be reduced from 100 to 75!!
Reputation Rewards
- Skyguard Exalted has the Nether Ray Fry.
- Sporeggar Exalted will net you a Tiny Sporebat
- Kalu’ak Exalted will get you Pengu, an adorable baby penguin
- Oracles Revered will allow you to purchase a Mysterious Egg, it takes 7 days to hatch, and can drop a Cobra Hatchling, Tickbird Hatchling, White Tickbird Hatchling, and Red Protodrake Whelp. Rarely it will also drop a Green Protodrake mount. These drops are random and rare, so be patient and keep trying!
Achievements
- Stinker comes from your 50 pet achievement
- Kirin’Tor familiar is the final reward for Higher Learning. You’ll find the guide I used to complete this on the linked wowhead page.
Fishing
- Mister Pinchy- randomly fished up in a magical crawdad box from Highlands Mixed Schools in Skettis. Even if you catch the box (which is an achievement) you have to get lucky and hope the Benevolant Mr Pinchy grants your wish.
- Giant Sewer Rat- Fished up from the Dalaran Sewers. This could be fast, or extremely long. It’s just a random catch. BE CAREFUL if you autoloot! Make SURE your loot is inventoried BEFORE you recast! You don’t want to miss the confirmation dialog and accidently throw him back.
- Baby Crocolisk (4 total) Random reward in your bag of fishing treasures after completing the outlands fishing daily “Crocolisks in the City” I still only have 1, but keep trying!!
Farming (non dungeon)
- Emerald Whelpling – Drops from Dreaming Whelps in Swamp of Sorrows. Strategy, kill all the green whelps, even though only the Dreaming drop it. They all share respawns.
- Azure Whelpling – elite blue dragonkin in Azshara drop this.
- Tiny Crimson Whelpling – Drops from Flamesnorting, Crimson, and Red whelps in the wetlands near Grim Batol I think it was.
- Dark Whelpling – the best place to farm these is in Lethlor Ravine in Badlands, there are whelps on either side of the large center area with good respawn rates. The center area is full of elites, a 70 can run through carefully enough to not aggro, lower levels migt want to go back out and around to change sides.
- Captured Firefly Zangarmarsh , Bogflare Needlers near Orebar Harborage. Easy route (left as you exit the harborage, and straight ahead of the harborage), quick respawns.
- Disgusting Oozeling – anywhere there are lvl 50+ ozzes. Some say Felwood is best, I had good luck inthe Infectus Scar in EPL.
One Time Only – If you missed the scourge invasion in 2008, Blizzards 4 year anniversary, the 2008 Olympics in game rewards for pvp, or Winter Veil 2007 these are not attainable. (I know there are more but these are the ones I know of off hand)
Dungeons and Raids
- Phoenix Hatchling – Kael’thas Sunstrider in Magister’s Terrace (best drop rate is heroic)
- Mojo from Zul’aman
Last but not least, we have Special Events. However, there is no way I could do this near as well as the calendar that Breanni has created. So I’m referring you to it! While you’re there, sign up!! If you haven’t already of course. There is no way I could have tracked my pets OR written these pages without that site. I didn’t include TCG or CE pets, or any other outside source in this guide, because I wanted to focus on what can be fond in the game itself.
If you’ve attained all of these pets listed, you should have your Stinker, and be well on your way to your own lil fawn!
Alliance: 63
Horde: 62
Happy Hunting!

The Pet Collector’s Guide Part 2
The Pet Collector’s Guide Part 2 (crafted and Quests)
Jan 7th
In the first part of this guide, we went over the basic vendor pets available in World of Warcraft. This section will deal with Crafted pets, and Quest rewards. Also, on a side not for ease of tracking your collection, I highly recommend Warcraft Pets. Breanni had a wonderful database and collection tracking system set up here. No wonder there’s an NPC named after the cute little gnome!
Crafted Pets
These are mainly made by engineers, and several of them can be found on the AH. Prices here are sometimes a bit less expensive than the materials required to make them. Other times it’s the opposite.
BoP Crafted
- Lil Smokey – This is a BoP gnomish engineering only pet.
- Pet Bombling – The goblin engineering BoP pet.
BoE Crafted
- Mechanical Squirrel- inexpensive mats make this one an easy to attain pet for most levels. You’ll need a Copper Modulator, Handful of Copper Bolts, a Copper Bar, and 2 Malachite. It also sells rather cheap on the AH.
- Lifelike Toad- Made by engineers also. Mats are a Living Essence, 4 Thorium Widgets, a Gold Power Core, and a Rugged Leather. Prices are a bit high on the AH on the 2 servers I use (75-125g), due to the schematics rarity I assume.
- Tranquil Mechanical Yeti- One of my favorite pets. Engineer made, with a Cured Rugged Hide, 4 Thorium Widgets, 2 Globe of Water, 2 Truesilver Transformers, and a Gold Power Core. I’ve usually seen it cheaper than the mats on the AH but you’re experience may vary.
Pets Via Quest
Some pets are quest rewards from special events, but I’m not covering them now, as I plan on the next installment being special event pets.
Quest Rewards
- Mechanical Chicken-(Alliance and Horde) This is a reward for completing three “Distress Beacon” quests which drop off random mobs in Tanaris, Feralas, and Hinterlands.
- Miniwing-(Alliance and Horde) is a pretty purple and white bird rewarded for escorting and freeing Skywing in Terrokar Forest.
- Smolderweb Hatchling-(Alliance and Horde) is a reward from En-Ay-Es-Tee-Why in Blackrock Spire. You can pick it up in the cave east of BRS from Kibler. I was able to stealth this with my resto druid pretty easily at 70 using this guide. For non stealth classes you might want a small group at least.
- Worg Pup-(Alliance and Horde) is a reward for Kibler’s Exotic Pets, gotten from the same quest giver as the solderweb hatchling quest. Might as well do them at the same time.
- Sprite Darter Hatchling- (Alliance only) This is a very long quest chain. And there is ALOT of travel involved, including a trip to the Shimmering Flats racetrack (Get your Anacona chicken while you’re there if you haven’t already!!). The quest begins with Freedom for all Creatures in Feralas given by Kindal Moonweaver. After you’ve finished this chain you’ll be sent to Darnassus. GO BACK to Feralas after that to pick up An Orphan Looking For a Home.
- CLUCK! This one is fun. Go to westfall, to Saldeans farm, buy your special feed from him. Then, creat a macro /cluck and spam it at a targeted chicken until it emotes at you. You’ll then get a quest to feed it, it lays and egg and you loot it. Esy peasy. Unless you’re horde, in which case Breanni wrote a nice guide. PLEASE NO CHICKEN NINJA-ING!
Note: I realize the Baby crocs and Mysterious Egg pets are in fact quest related, however they are also in the rare category, and not guarenteed. They’ll be covered in the Rare Pet section when it’s written.
Grand total if you had no pets at the start of this guide and are not an engineer should be:
Alliance: 37
Horde: 36
If you’re an engineer, add 1.
The next installment will deal with Special Events such as the Darkmoon Faire, Childrens Day, etc. and our “Feat of Strength” pets.

The Pet Collector’s Guide Part 3
The Pet Collector’s Guide Part 1
Jan 6th
This isn’t exactly a guide, more of an outline of the pets available in the game, and the ways to get them. Ok, I guess that makes it a guide eh? Well it’s my first so be gentle with me. Also, I’m writing this between Dreaming Whelp respawns in Swamp of Sorrows so forgive any random fractured sentences. I’m breaking it up into several parts rather than one giant post.
This guide written with the full knowledge that there are not currently 100 pets in the game, and under the assumption that Blizz will be adding more. It also is written with the knowledge that achievements are intended to be hard, and are not required. It also assumes you already know how to use the Neutral AH to get things from one faction to another. I’m writing this with the intent to put together as much information as possible in light of the upcoming 100 pet achievement.
Keep in mind there are currently 110 pets in game. But there are catches.
1. Two of them are Engineering ONLY.(Pet Bombling and Lil Smokey)
2. 20 of them are Promotional through the TCG, Chinese and European events, Blizzcon, and Blizzard’s World Wide Invitational.
3. 1 pet is strictly Alliance only, through a quest for a Sprite Darter Hatchling
So, lets start with pets that do NOT count as pets for achievements. There are two such pets currently in the game. The Coyote Spirit from Don Carlo’s Hat, and the Blood Parrot from the Bloodsail admiral’s hat. So, if you were thinking of destroying your goblin rep, and possibly your mind to get this parrot to add to your pet numbers. STOP! it doesn’t count.
Easy To Aquire Vendor Pets (Azeroth)
The easiest pets to get are the standard vendor pets. Each major city has a pet vendor, who sells at least 2-4 of a specific pet in varying styles or colors. All Vendors are linked to WoWhead pages with maps to save on wall of text effect.
Alliance
Stormwind (Outside Northshire ) has the crazy cat lady who sells a Silver Tabby, Orange Tabby, Bombay, and Cornish Rex.
Darnassus has the Owl Vendor just outside the main city entrance from Teldrassil. Shylenai sells a Great Horned Owl and a Hawk Owl.
Exodar has 3 moths available. Each a different color. Blue White and Yellow moth eggs can be purchased for 50s each from Sixx in The Crystal Hall.
Iron Forge proper does NOT have a pet vendor. However outside Ironforge at Amberstill Ranch you’ll find Yarlyn Amberstill. If you can catch her she’ll sell you a Snowshoe Rabbit for 20 silver.
Horde
Orgrimmar has your friendly Neighborhood Snake Vendor. A Troll named Xan’tish. He sells Three varieties of snake for 50 silver each.
Undercity has your Cockroach Vendor, Jeremiah Payson, he sells one cockroach for 50 silver. Howver, you can also get this pet from Dealer Rashaad in the Stormspire, Netherstorm if you’re Alliance and don’t want to deal with the Neutral AH game.
Silvermoon’s vendor is actually out in Eversong Woods. Jilanne sells 3 colors of Dragonhawks. Golden, Red, and Silver, costing 50 silver each. He’s on the very top level of one of the buildings. He now resides in the building to the left the Inn in Fairbreeze Village. Thank you to Commentor Andy for this correction.
Neutral
Booty Bay has Narkk, he deals in Parrots, selling a Cockatiel and Senegal.
Magus Tirth in Shimmering Flats sells an Anacona Chicken. You’ll find him at the race track.
Outland Vendors
Dealer Rashaad in Netherstorm (Stormspire) sells a Blue Dragonhawk, Brown Rabbit, a Mana Wyrmling, Red Moth, Senegal Parrot, Siamese Cat (also drops in Deadmines from Cookie), He also sells one of the Ogrimmar snakes.
Dalaran- Make sure to hit the Sewers and find Darahir and get your Ghostly Skull for 40g!
Congratulations, by now you certainly have your Plenty of Pets Achievement, and maybe even your Plethora of Pets!
Total Pets if you just started collecting: 28
Part Two will address quest reward pets, and crafted pets. and WOOT! The Tiny Emerald Whelpling finally dropped!
