Wow 2010-04-19 11-51-19-50

A gentle looking Cow, with a hint of /jessrage around the eyes. D’awwwwww!!!

1. Silvermoon City is a very bad place to start life in the Horde. First off you’ll likely be blinded by the shiny and end up lost for an hour trying to find the darned orb* to Undercity. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

2. The first step off the Zeppelin tower, once you finally get to the one that will take you to Dalaran, is indeed, a doozy. Bonus, I ended up in Brill somehow, so I bought a Bony Pony*.

3. No. No you may NOT use the Alliance portals.

4. When you fly to Borean Tundra, and land at whatever the hold is. Wait for the lift. Darned horde and their lifts!!

* In my 3 years of WoW, I have played Horde twice, neither got past their mid twenties. Thus I learned, thanks in large part to Kadomi and Daughters of the Horde (Jessmyn’s first guild was in fact Daughters of the Alliance) a bit of my way around. I apparently did not retain the “don’t fall of the….lift” lesson I had learned in Thunder Bluff on my Blood Elf Hunter.

Famous last words right? Let me just try this one more thing before I quit. After all, I still have a week of paid time, two in fact since Blizz sent me seven more days to try and coax me back. So, let me try the dark side for a bit. Since all of my girls pretty much penniless on the streets of Dalaran, I only chose to play one of them. My priest. She has had enough of the Alliance, and has joined The Horde. She lost alot of Lose Weight Exercise in the process (and her tail disappeared but that’s ok). But at least she sits properly on her flying carpet now, and no longer rides it like a flying surfboard…well, much.

Oh Hell, while we’re at it we might as well go ALL the way right? The Sparkle Pony. Yes, I scoffed when I first saw images of it. But I didn’t notice until I logged in that…it’s a rideable constellation dude!!

And, well, being such a lovely creature as I now am, and so powerful. Well it’s only fitting that when I’m sitting at rest, I should have my own personal galaxy, to compliment The Awesome that IS Jess right?

galaxy

Right!

Now, excuse me while I get a sammich.

Next time, I’ll tell you of the adventures we had with the change.

I really quit WoW. Officially. Subscription cancelled and all of it.

Why? The thrill was gone for one. I had five level 80 characters, they were all at the point that the only thing left to do was fish, do old quests, do dailies, or run the same dungeons over and over. But it wasn’t just that, it was the same old things that started eating at me before.

Dungeons, Raids, were out. As the only parent here, and wife of a deployed soldier I couldn’t GET involved with group activities. I never know when The Man is going to get online, a dog is going to need out, or a cat fight is going to break out between the kids.

It also really started to not be as much fun for me once Hubby stopped playing, even before he deployed.

I really thought I’d go back, once this laptop got here and I could play again, but it didn’t happen. There was always something I needed to do first. Housework, grocery shopping, cooking. There were all the times I hadn’t heard from Hubby in a few days and took no chances on missing him by logging in, so I’d say I’ll log in when I hear from him.

The next thing I knew,I was finding out we were moving to GA next winter, and R&R was here. So it boiled down to real life > WoW on a permanent basis. Yes, I’m playing other games, but they are all single players with pause features that don’t require holding up 4 other people while I go randomly AFK. Or They involve playing WITH my kids, such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band. I do miss the social aspect, but I can’t just fork out $16/month to chat.

In a way, it’s been a good thing for me, discovering other games, and platforms. Not having to schedule life if I want to play a game. Now, I can sit here at my desk playing whatever I play, and see a bird outside , and drop the pause button to go try getting a good close up shot. I can be running around  a dungeon, and hear something interesting on TV, and turn around and watch for a few minutes. Or even just save and quit right there if I want.

As for my characters, well like any smart athlete does, they retired while they were on a good team, and at the top of their games.

So yeah, protip. If you’re using Fraps, two suggestions.

1. On windows 7…it ain’t gonna work right til you run as administrator. Otherwise your keybind gets screwy, it takes LITERALLY 10,000 screenshots while you play Dragon Age: Origins.

2. When you change your keybind, and try to take screenshots of something you have NEVER seen before. It doesn’t WORK if you hit the OLD keybinding.

So if you want to see screenshots, they are over at Bear’s Blog.

It was my first night back, and using my new machine and it was B-E-A-utiful. Max graphic settings for the most part (let’s face it some are just not needed at max), running no less than six programs happyin the background, no lag, it was amazing.

But the best part was walking up to that roof and seeing Illidan in the flesh. Hearing him in person saying “YOU ARE NOT PREPARED”.

And even better than that, logging in and seeing my guildies and being asked to go in the first place. I’ve missed WoW, and I’ve missed my Sidhe Devils:-)
