The Loque Of The Not So Irish
If you name him. He will come.
All this week, up until yesterday I did nothing but search for the elusive Loque’nahak. The Spirit Beast. I have read ALL the stories, and thought the closest I’d get is a Pull Toy from BRK’s sticky post. I gave up. I decided that my normal pets were just as special as this oh so rare beauty. Even though as a Draenei with my own glowing blue eyes we’d make a striking pair.
As I slept last night, a name came to me. Denali. Great one in the Athabaskan tongue. The REAL name of Mt Mckinley.
I woke up, grabbed my coffee. Logged into Nessingwary’s camp where I’d dropped my search. My plan was to do some mining. I turned on track minerals and started my rounds. I came to The Bonefields, and saw a titanium node spawned. Also knowing Loque could occasionally spawnthere, a tapped my keybound macro.

Suddenly Illidan’s voice filled the room…YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!! That’s precisely when BRK’s friend Brain invaded my thoughts, only he sounded more like George Carlin..
I was in Panic mode.
Me: OMG there he is!!
George: yes. Yes he is. What are you going to do?
ME: TAME HIM!!
ALL of BA chat: Jess, you don’t want him remember?
ME: SHHHH!!!
George: he’s elite, you should take precautions.
ME: AND??
George: T-R-A-P?
Me: Right…WHERE IS MY TRAP???
George: Told you 3 days ago, you should keybind that.
ME: …not helping me find the button!
George: You really should hurry, are there others nearby?
ME: Shit…/look around…no, I’m safe. aha there’s trap.
George: /facepalm real ladylike language there LADY Jess
ME: GO HOME GEORGE!!
/tame beast POP goes the trap, and he never laid a claw on me. I sent George straight back to BRK (thanks for the loan, hope it wasn’t too much trouble).
I’m in love. He’s gorgeous. He’s mine. He is the Great one. Denali. He’ll always show up when you quit searching, and if you name him…he will come.

Grats Jess! He’s lovely!
oh. it’s probably stuff like that which made you think I was a she…. crap!

Congrats! I know how special that feeling is when you finally lay eyes on him. My hands are shaking now just remembering my own taming. He’s totally worth all the effort put into the search.

Thanks Ace! I’ve never had that experience with a tame, I mean I got a little shaky with that white ape in Ungoro, but nowhere NEAR the level of Loque.

Sounds a lot like what happened to me when I caught that beauty. Big GRATS on catching him and great post.

Congrats!
I managed to find Loque just a few weeks ago myself, and renamed him Cheveyo, which means ’spirit warrior’ in Hopi according to one page I visited. A week later I found him again and helped a guildmate get him as well.

Thanks! I go to SB daily to mine, and keep an eye out for him for a few guildies I know want him. I just hope they can get there in time.

Gratz on the tame! I managed to nab him bout a week ago, but my story is far less heroic. After spending about a week and a half in scholazar, looking for the loque, a message appeared in the general chat saying “Found the spirit beast. 500 gold for location”. so, to make a long story short, I found myself 500 gold poorer, but I don’t regret it at all… Yeah, I know, it’s kind of cheating, but I really did NOT want to spend another week of staring at those freaking apes waiting for a kitty to spawn there while they scratched their arses for hours on end =[

Thanks! I wouldn’t say cheating:) Technically I paid 6000g for mine, I had to get epic flight and cold weather flight o give myself the best chances.

I got my Loque a couple of weeks back myself. My story goes like this:
I woke one morning, saw a video on YouTube and thought that I should finally give it a go. Respecced back to BM from my exercise in SV.
First patrol was 2 hours before work. Second patrol after work, nearly 3 hours in I got tired of my mount’s speed, so I logged my pally on account #2. Spamming the macro, flew around for minutes before Loque appeared, but on the other side of the zone from my hunter! I quickly switched back to my hunter’s window, started the flight to my pally, then my computer started to spaz out, my fps dropped and the flight became AGONY!. This went on for about 5 minutes with me trying to keep on course while cursing at my computer, A LOT. But in the end, I got him! And boy was it a relief! I was prepared to spend weeks hunting, but ended up spending 5 hours total in my search.
I named him Lockon, as a tribute to Lockon Stratos from Gundam 00

Oh I can’t even imagine! I probably would have passed out from hypervenilation at that point. Big grats to you!!

I tamed him on new years day – after 2 weeks of looking. A lot. Like you, I dumped the 6k into the flight and cold weather flying, and that did help. I had pretty much decided that I was not going to do this anymore, and dropped to one of the spawn points to log out. and there he was.
I don’t hunt with anything else now. I was a ravager type until now. I didn’t get enuogh folks together for the spirit wolf, sadly, so this helps make up for it – in fact, I like the spirit beast a lot more.
definately one of the premier tames of WoW -
Congratulations on yours. it’s a joy to behold.

I haven’t stabled him yet either. Safe to say he’ll reach 80 first. I have 4 others to level after that but Denali is definitely #1! Thanks!!

That’s awesome! It’s also true, I had given up on him totally. I hadn’t been to Sholazar for 5 days (after nearly a month of hunting) and the only reason I went back was to tame the LSD Wasp of Doom before she became an endangered species. Sheer habit made me hit that macro that I still hadn’t removed from my hotbar and the klaxon of the raid warning going off when it targeted Loque caused me to dash a favorite coffee cup across the room. I caught him, with no stumbles really. I also thought I was too jaded to be affected by it. But then he was standing at my side and the shakes started lol.
Congrats

Thank you! Apparently we hunters are never Jaded, I guess it took a Spirit Beast to teach that lesson:) I hope you could fix your coffee cup!!
[Reply]
Grats on the tame! My Hunter is my #1 alt, if that makes sense, so I’m still saving up for his epic flight before I bother trying to tame. No way am I gonna zoom around Sholazar unless I can *really* zoooooom.
That’s a darn pretty screenshot, too. I’m sure you probably have a nice video card, but wow… it looks like it would be in a section about Hunters or taming or some such on the official Blizzard site.

Thank you! I couldn’t bring myself to try on a slow bird. Especially since my druid has swift flight form, I was spoiled already. I totally undertand the #1 alt, that’s what my hunter has become again. And thanks for the compliment on the screenshot:)

Gratson a beautiful new pet with a great name. My gorgeous Wintersprings cat has been named Denali since about early 2006, and has been my main pet ever since. As soon as I respec back to BM, I will make the trek over to tame one of these beautiful cats, but since I have Denali for my main pet, I’ll have to figure out a name just as suitable.

Thank you:) And good luck! I find the Native American language to be a great source of names, or in this case Native Alaskan.

This doesn’t always work. I thought of a name for when I tamed him weeks ago, and still no Loque. I’ve given up looking as well, I hit my macro whenever I’m in the area (doing dailies, farming, getting another Oracle egg, etc.) but I haven’t actively looked for him for a few weeks. This search has pwned me totally.

Grats on your Tame, found your post from BRK’s no-brain rambnlings.
I’ve managed to get a Lok of my very own as well this saturday morn.
Wife couldn’t sleep and had logged me insporadically at 2am and 4am, she got to bed at 6am, and sort of woke me up and told me what she’d been doing. So I thought what the hell, mayaswell go see if i get lucky. Only really been sporadically camping him when i was going the Oracle dailies, but this time I decided to invest some time. So with an hour and a half of flying round the spawn points, and about to call it a day I get to the Skyreach Pillar.
Been using the same macro too, and suddenly Illidin goes nuts on me. There he is between the pillar and a tree. So dismount, trap up and go to tame …. but he’s moved out of reach >.< Couldn’t afford to wait for CD so took the chance and ran into rand and hit tame. 11K Hps later, flashing up “Low HP” warnings and it’s all done. Lok is by my side too.
Woke the wife up and let her name him, since she’d started the search that lead to the sucessful tame

Grats on taming the best DPS pet in the game! I spent many hours looking for my own Spirit Beast starting at level 77 (so I could fly my fast mount) – and I didn’t find him until I was 80! I also had 2 friends that kept their eyes peeled whenever they were in the area. I’ve named mine Akasha – and she does wonderful DPS! She broke 2k on Patchwerk 25 man the other night!
Enjoy your Denali – a great catch!

Congrats on the big tame. I was pretty lucky myself, and found my Pookie early in my hunt. Been keeping my eye out for another (call me glutton!) but haven’t seen on in months.
As for “the shakes…” Not shakes. It’s called “going plum loque!”

I had given up also. then one day i went to the gorillas to do some farming for leather i saw him. i freaked and my brain completely shut down. i managed to tame him tho. he is now named Winston like all my other pets. lol.

I have him on my lvl 80 in Sentinels. He is grand. I’m trying to help another hunter out, doing the rounds, /tar macro being spammed. It is just as painful the second time around.

You know I have been looking for one of the spirit beasts for a while, Finally got Gondria on Dark Iron, Was just wasting time before a H UP run, and was over in zul’drak, spamming my macro expecting another fruitless loop, when the raid warning popped up. I got so nervous and jittery, going omg omg omg, and finally tamed him, I was so happy.

[...] I have recently brought my hunter out of retirement. She’s been 80 since December, and pretty much retired. For the last week or so I’ve been working on bringing her up to par with the rest of my characters. She came along quickly. This includes adjusting her spec a bit. However, I am, and always will be, a Beast Master hunter. I don’t care what the "in" spec is, or what the "perfect" pet is. I am a Beast Master hunter and my preferred pet is my Spirit Beast. [...]
