It’s Only Fair

i can take a joke, even at my own expense. This blog post is proof of that. If you can’t laugh at yourself…who else can you laugh at.

I was soooo excited to hit 80!! I had a spirit beast, I had new gear, I had 2 epics. I was awesome! Today, I ran a normal DTK run, and Denali dinged 80 JUST as I got the achievement…how cool!

denaliding

I then had to log to attend my daughter’s band concert. When I returned, I got a chance to run a heroic. Nexus, no problem. I even had quests there. Bonus!

nexus

Complete! I never died (go go Feign Death). I got some badges, I even trapped a mob. TWICE! Chain trapping! Ok, so it only need trapped twice but dammit it was a short chain. My dps wasn’t even bad considering I’m in the crafted blue (pvp oriented but not bad) set.

recount

This was about mid run, didn’t catch recount in any other shots, I somehow closed it. But hey, not bad right?

Then…came the fail. It was 2am, I logged out to go to bed. All pleased with myself for not being a huntard. I go to a couple blogs, and the BRK forums to see if I can figure out how to get my pullshot back since my old “/cast arcane shot /stopcasting” no longer stopped auto attack, and neither did /stopattack. i see mention of Freezing Arrow. A level 80 skill.

That’s when it hit me.

There I was, with my 1200 buffed DPS…and…not a single level 80 skill or rank trained.

/facepalm
/blush
/cry

Situation has now been rectified. That 1200 number is now my unbuffed dps. Yeah It’s NOT raid quality (she’ll likely never enter a raid, that’s my druid’s thing), but dammit it’s not bad, and when I’m NOT lagging to death on the target dummy I’ll play with rotation to see how it changes.

If I ever recover from my epic fail!

Hehehe! Don’t worry Jess, you aren’t the only one to noob out…

I remember after the Big Patch hit in BC… I logged on to my Druid to putz around a little, and got asked by some guildies if I wanted to do a Kara. I got in there, Beared up, noticed my HP seemed a little low, and thought nothing of it. Druid tanks had just gotten nerfed, after all.

I pulled the first group. It was a bit tough – I couldn’t find the Faerie Fire button, so I just body pulled em, and started whacking away. Mangle had disappeared as well, but then, I had just reconfigured my whole UI in a heck of a rush, since the mod I used to use no longer worked. The button was probably hiding somewhere on a bar I wasn’t showing. No biggie. I could auto attack and hold aggro pretty well.

… or so I thought. Everyone was pulling off me, the healers were complaining about the amount of damage I was taking, and things got pretty messy. Just as I was about to ask everyone what the hell was going on, I realised.

Talent points had been refunded.

D’oh!

You are not alone, When I recently respec’d away from BM for the first time in 4+ years to Survival. I nervously went through the process at the trainer of wiping my current spec, I cautiously went through my pre-planned new spec, and then left the trainer.

I didn’t think to check with the trainer if I had anything to learn.

It wasn’t until a run through Naxx that 1 of our long term Survival hunters asked me what level of Explosive Shot I was using. I looked at my damage & dps on the meters, I was #3 so I figured I was doing ok – and replied “er…level 1, there’s only 1 level right?”

He quietly laughed and said “No mate, there’s 4″

I sheepishly finished the run and bolted to the trainer as fast as my toon would carry me.

Hehehe, been there, done that. In my case I forgot to train Aimed Shot and didn’t think much of it because of that.

Hey, what font is it that you use for your scrolling text? It’s nice.

I think I probably have you all beat. Remember several patches ago and before WotLK when you still had to train talents if you respecced for the first time?

No one ever told me that.

So after a year of full-time raid healing, I read on an upcoming patch note: “You will no longer have to train skills after re-talenting.” I looked at my fiance and said, “does this mean you have to train when you respec?” He said, “Yeah, you didn’t know that?”

I had been healing with 2 ranks under on almost all of my spells…for a year.

Egads, I’ve never admitted that. /blush

It’s always good to know we aren’t alone isn’t it?

Only thing I’m confused about. When did 1200 become “not bad”? Isn’t 2k considered the benchmark at the moment? At level 70 wasn’t 1000 the goal?

Well I don’t know about that, and frankly for an alt that just hit 80 two days or so ago, is in starter 80 blues, in a casual guild that by the way only requires 1500 dps to start 10 man naxx I’m not too worried about it. As I said in my post once I get my rotation down I’m sure it will go up. My raiding toon is a lvl 80 boomkin, this toon *MIGHT* do a heroic here and there but it’s really not my focus.

Lol I’ve gone worse. On my first char, I lvled al the way from lvl 20 – 50 and I visited a trainer twice.

LOL….one of the warriors in the guild respec’d the other day. Put all of the talents, in one of the trees, where they were supposed to be. Could not figure out why his DPS was so low in Naxx……when to use a talent from his secondary tree….and discovered why his DPS was so low. And considering that he does raid-leading….it can happen to anyone.
On the recount issue. Normally, if you accidentally close it, you can reopen it with the command “/recount toggle”. Hope that is all it is.

You should always include your pet in your total dps. You’re ‘not bad’ is actually ‘really good’ for a fresh 80 at almost 1900 :o )

And don’t feel bad about forgetting to train… I’ve done that lots. Although, never at 80 hehe

thanks:) It actually was merged, I just had him showing to see what he did. I’m still working out sht rotation and all that jazz, but I’ll get there:)
