I think we all got worn out today. We got up late, as usual on a Sunday. Had our coffee, packed a bag, and headed to the on post lake. When we got there, hubby took us down the path they occasionally use for PT (daily physical training) runs. It’s a nice little walk really. we spotted a couple Bald Eagles, and laughed at our 14 year old being all prissy about walking through the woods. Then it occurred to me, that this was a first. It was the first time I’ve walked through the woods since the Moose Incident in 2004, when a very angry Alaskan moose trapped my husband, daughter, and I behind some very skinny trees on a trail in Denali National Park. It was nice knowing none of those hooved monsters were out there.
After the walk we headed to the swimming area. The kids got in the water, hubby and I joined them. I decided to challenge myself and swim to the far ropes that cut off the swimming area from the non swimming area. I knew I had to swim back, there’s no bottom out by those ropes! My arms will probably be screaming tomorrow but it felt good to go out and back. The water was so nice, but we retired to the blanket, put on our sunblock, and relaxed in the sun. Me with Cash: The Autobiography, my current read, him with…well the inside of his eyelids. I didn’t burn this time, though I thought my face did, it was just red from the heat. I’m not out for a tan really, though it is nice to shed the winter paleness, and feel the warmth from the sun on my skin. It’s energizing. We stayed for a couple hours, then hit the commissary for dinner supplies. Chicken, charcoal, baked beans, and S’more fixins. That was dinner. After which I cleaned the kitchen, living room, vacuumed, cleaned and watered the yard…see? Sun=energy!
Finally, it was Our time. we left the kids home, grabbed the camera, and headed back
to the lake for sunset. we walked the same trail as before, saw the eagles again. That made me decide I need to get at least SOME of my former photography equipment back. Just the camera body and one big lens. Nothing more, my point and shoot works fine for everything else. You could hear them everywhere, not the sound you’d expect from Bald Eagles by the way. If I hadn’t heard them at the one zoo here I’d think it was just normal birds. They have a rather loud, but high pitched chirping. A very pleasant sound. we left the park again, and he took me to the lake they train at. The sunset wasn’t spectacular like in Alaska. But it was calm and serene, and the end of what was a very relaxing Sunday.
