Archive for July, 2008

Most of my LJ followers know all of this, but I’m going to recap for my blog readers so this makes sense. I am…an Army Wife. As such, I tend to have my husband missing for sometimes short amounts of time, and others obnoxiously long periods. This has required me to get a bit independent. A challenge for me since I moved straight from Mom to Husband, and thus always had someone taking care of me.

In 2005 hubby served his first tour in Iraq. Well wouldn’t you know that truck needed an oil change. So I took it in for that, and mentioned the rear squeaked, and maybe they could see why. Well they couldn’t. BUT they did give me a nice long list of things that just MUST be fixed. Of course. So, I did what they sure weren’t expecting. I told them SURE you can fix ALL of that. Just as soon as I get a second opinion. The look of shock was priceless.

On each post we have what’s called an Auto Craft Shop, or Auto Skills Center. They’re run by certified Mechanics, and funded by our Morale, Welfare, Recreation center (MWR). What they do is give you options. You can take your car in there, rent a bay for $4/hour, and fix it yourself (with mechanics standing by ready to help/instruct) or have them fix it. So, I drove my happy ass over there. They checked it out and said most of the stuff on the list was just fine, only the Tie Rod Ends needed replacing, and at least one thing on the list didn’t even EXIST on my truck. He got me a price on the parts, and I chose to do the work myself. I also chose to replace both sides tie rod ends, because if you’re going to fix ONE might as well fix both.

While I was there, the post paper photographer was called. Here they had a woman, who’s husband was overseas, doing her own work on her own truck. Great story. So I got my picture taken, and had a brief interview. It was amusing, and ran a couple weeks later. I never thought anything of it. Until my friend Miss Lizz emailed me the most recent copy. Apparently, 2+ years later, I’m still good advertisement. /boggles

Greasemonkey_Me

I must say, this was one of the things I was most proud of myself for while Hubby was gone. And those suckers are still holding to this day. *knock on wood* And Kestrel…I did not screech!! Oh and by the way, the estimate from the Garage was $600, I got it all done for $180.

Last night was another first for me. I took JessRag_Domo to Molten Core. She was only Level 10 or so when BC came out, so she never saw anything of the Old World dungeons and raids outside of Scarlet Monastery and Deadmines. It was all very cool, especially listening to the rest of the team reminiscing about the 40 man days in there. I can definitely picture our raid leader managing 40 people, he’s really good. It almost makes me wish I’d started playing sooner, but I guess I’ll have similar memories of doing Kara when the WOTLK comes out. I’m going to miss Kara actually. It’s by far my favorite group activity. I did get my T1 boots, A nice little souvenir from the first MC boss.

Ragnaros was by far the most impressive event last night. The whole dramatic build up, the fight, even if I got thrown BEHIND the mountain and had to HoT myself swimming through a river of lava to get back to my tanks to heal them. That was impressive too, a challenge I haven’t faced before.

And Bonus, I now understand the post I made about the lvl 60 bosses being neglected!

I figured on another dull boring week in the household. And I got it. With one less child. My oldest has decided to attend a summer class at her new high school. It lasts two weeks, earns her half semester elective credit, and she’s staying with a friend for it. Wow. Wasn’t expecting that one.

Still waiting for hubby to get home. I really feel out of it when he’s gone, be it a week or a year it totally throws me off. This time, I had to go ringless, which made it worse. I somehow managed to get a chemical burn under my wedding rings. A bit of neosporin applied regularly and it’s gone. Thank goodness. I wouldn’t have noticed it if I hadn’t bumped my rings on my desk and felt the burning from the blister breaking. Owee.

My child is going to school in the summer…What the…????

Part Time Druid inspired me when he wrote his article about finding your WoW voice. This is something I’ve really only just done. You see, I’ve been blogging for a total of eight years. I started on Open Diary, then Diary Place, then my own website, blogger, live journal, then self hosted Word Press in several forms. THEN I discovered WoW. Which lead to WoW blogs. Which led to me saying, I blog, I play WoW, I can do this too! But the more blogs I read, the more intimidating it got for me to blog among this awesome community. Why? I was good at blogging about my life, but I was approaching blogging about WoW that same way, while all the blogs I admired were such great teachers, theorycrafters, big time raiders, stuff I knew nothing about. How on earth could I fit in this world? I’m just a girl that plays WoW and blogs about it between loads of laundry and making dinner!

I’d been neglecting my personal blog for months by this point. And I missed it. 200316562-001 I wanted one localized blog, keeping two going was a pain. I also wanted to get my photos back online (an ongoing project). But my domain name, Lady-Jess.com didn’t quite fit. It was too late to change, as for whatever reason, I have subscribers! After a lot of discussion I simply changed the title to Lady Jess…And Then Some. That lead to deciding to import my old blog into this one. Then I realized my theme didn’t fit my life. It fit my WoW side but not my other side. So, I got a new theme. I braved Paint Shop Pro, and combined WoW and Life in my header.  Still I was unsure. Then I read PTD’s article. And it fell together.

There are blogs out there that can teach you everything you ever wanted to know about Priests, Druids, Hunters, heck, every class in the game. There are blogs that can theorycraft, and theorymath faster than I can blink an eye. Then there’s me. After nine months, I’ve found my voice. I’ve become what I always was. A girl with a blog, that loves WoW. A girl that blogs about her latest raid, loot, accomplishments, mishaps and screwups. Rants about her latest bad pug, Blizzard bug, lack of gold, hatred of farming. A girl that is married to the Army, with two drama queen teen daughters, two dogs with their own issues, that has an addiction to coffee, and all things pink. A girl that loves photography and screenshots, and includes both in her on site gallery.  I’m Lady Jess…and then some.
